Conference 2008

david baldacci
David Baldacci speaking to a sold-out crowd at the 6th annual James River Writers Conference.  Emyl Jenkins, Conference Chair, sits behind.

Our 6th annual writers' conference was a huge success!

Here's what two of our speakers had to say about it:

"The panels were fascinating, and the participants all impressed with their savvy and professionalism. I dare say I learned as much as many of the aspiring writers themselves ... Richmond and the James River area are simply teeming with talented writers, many of whom have gone on to illustrious careers but never forgotten their roots. It's that sense of community that really makes the community a special place, and I'm happy to be a small part of it." ~ Kirk Ellis, Emmy-award winning screenwriter (John Adams)

"The James River Writers Conference is the best run, and most enjoyable conference I have ever attended. Here you will listen to nationally known authors who honestly share what they have learned, and entertain with their hilarious stories of life in the publishing world ... [There is] a spirit of collegiality that is truly special for all participants. If you can attend just one writers conference, make it this one." ~ Jeanne Fredericks, Literary Agent

JRW is making a difference

James River Writers has been honored twice in Central Virginia. In September, 2006, we were among the recipients of the 2006 Theresa Pollak Prize for excellence in the arts, awarded by Richmond magazine. In its January 31, 2007, issue, Style Weekly recognized the founding of James River Writers as one of the pivotal moments in the past quarter-century of Richmond Arts. We wouldn't have received these recognitions without the fantastic support of our members and corporate sponsors. Thank you, Virginia!
